Logo design – the indie lime process

We are often asked here at indie lime HQ about the process we go through when designing a logo, so here’s a synopsis:

Well hello there..

Firstly, we really like to get to know our client and their business. This is a vital step and one often missed, especially through online, cheap logo design sites. We have a very helpful form that we asks clients to fill out, this covers their history, hopes and dreams for their business, defining their target audience, their key products and services and all of the information we need to really build a picture of the business.

Clients love this meeting. There’s lots of talk about their business, how we can develop a great new logo and branding that will help them grow. It’s a great chance for us to get to know each other and they always leave excited and enthusiastic about the future of their business.

Research, research, research…

We believe research is an important tool at the starting point of a good logo design. We like to know who our clients’ competitors are and how they brand themselves, as well as other businesses within similar industries, to make sure our client’s new logo will make them stand out from the crowd. We also like to know who our clients like, what brands they love and if they have any ideas on the look and feel they want for their new logo design.

Let the fun begin…

The creative concept stage is next. We let our ideas loose and go to town exploring concepts, ideas, fonts and images, creating unique concept boards of our designs.

Ta da…

And now for the scary part, presenting our ideas. We pick the 3 strongest concepts from our boards and present them to our client. OK, so after the first breath holding moment, it’s not so scary. We love to see our client’s reactions and then the excited discussion that follows as we talk through the ideas behind the concepts.

From here we refine the preferred logo design and finally we supply the logo in the various electronic formats including jpeg, pdf and eps. The files are a key element to the whole package. A professionally designed logo is no use to you at all if you do not have the different files you need for web and social media, as well as printing and vector files for signage. Cheap logo packages will often sell you short on the files. We also supply a simple style guide that outlines the fonts, colours and best ways to use the logo, this too is gold for your business!

A final word from one of our many happy clients…

The Standard Companion logo

A few words from one of our many happy clients, Ana Retallack from The Standard Companion, Geelong about the indie lime logo design process.

“It was clear from my very first meeting with Lara that she possessed the ability, creative talent and vision to translate my brief perfectly. To say I was thrilled with the end result is an understatement. Lara was an absolute delight to work with throughout; her unwavering professionalism, positive attitude and ‘can do’ approach to every aspect of the process was astonishing.”
